How to Read Our Steel Inventory
Term | What it means |
CHQ (Cold Heading Quality) | Melted to ASTM F2282 with surface imperfections held to 1% of diameter. Built for severe upsets and critical parts. |
IQ (Industrial Quality) | Melted to ASTM A29 with surface imperfections up to 3% of diameter. For general industrial forming and bending. |
Hot Roll / "Green" | Rod as rolled, before any annealing. Harder than annealed material. |
SA | Spheroidize annealed rod, minimum 80% spheroidization. For customers who draw in front of the header. |
SAFS | Spheroidized at finished size, minimum 90%. The softest option, for the most severe upsets. |
SAIP | Spheroidize annealed in process, then given a light final draw. Bright finish with lower tensile than direct drawn. |
DFAR / DSAR | Drawn from annealed rod. Tighter size tolerance for customers who don't draw before heading. |
PH/LUBE, PH/POLY | Zinc phosphate with a lube or polymer coating that aids cold heading. |
CHQ Double Annealed | Processed for the most complex and extreme cold-formed and extruded parts. |
